An Early Morning Knit

my brioche shawl in progress, and a nice cup of tea

I admit, I’m a morning person. Always have been. I usually have more energy, can focus better, and get most of my to do list crossed off by early afternoon. After that, things just seem to drag for me; energy flags, and I’m working hard to finish out the day – especially the part where I cook supper once I arrive home… But I like evening too; the quiet, calm part, before bed. Perhaps because I know that evening is a kind of pre-morning – when I wake up, it’ll be morning again with all the potential and endless possibilities of a new day! I really like beginnings!

Though afternoons tend to be my less favorite part of the day, I do find that an early morning knit seems to help the whole rest of my day run smoothly, even the afternoon!

Do you have a favorite time of day? What do you like about it? What makes it special for you?

Love, Sacrifice

Morning

I love morning! I especially love getting up early and watching the sun rise while I drink my tea and knit! I love how the sky glows with beautiful colors alive with light! I love the sense of joy and peaceful well-being that morning brings. I also feel excited because a new day brings with it new opportunities, new challenges, new things to learn, and another chance to give love and care to those closest to me. Morning is my favorite time of day, and the only thing that would make it even better would be to share it with someone I love!

My husband, however, happens to be a night owl! In his perfect world, he wouldn’t have to get up until 9am, and he wouldn’t have to verbally interact with anyone before 10am! How do we cope, some may wonder! How do we manage to not drive each other crazy?

It’s not easy, but it’s a beautiful opportunity. It’s been said that “It’s the little things that count.” The things that might easily go unnoticed. When you love someone, you are willing and able to sacrifice your own happiness for theirs – and to do it cheerfully and generously, and regularly. Love is not about bargaining; true love is about sacrifice. What are you willing to do, not do, or give up for the sake of one you love? Jesus gave up everything for us. He is our perfect example, and one who knows the pain and the great joy of sacrifice.

How do my husband and I manage mornings together? We each sacrifice for the other. I do everything I can to make a quiet and peaceful environment so he can sleep as long as possible, and I restrain my urge to make happy conversation and allow him to wake up slowly. I don’t complain about him staying up late. He makes an effort to be pleasant and cheerful in the morning. He doesn’t complain when I get up early. We do our best to give each other what we need. We’re not perfect, but we keep trying. That’s what love is about!
